David is the former Vice-Chancellor, University of Ballarat, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University and Professor of Applied Chemistry at Bond University

Publications- David has published some 120 refereed scientific papers and three books. He was a speaker or an invited speaker at scientific meetings in 7 countries. From the mid-1980’s he had an increasing interest in applied research and in 1987 floated a company out of the university to examine the medical and industrial applications of lasers. At this time he also held a part-time position as Professor of Applied Chemistry at Bond University
