The new BAS Agent Laws commenced on 1 March 2010. This resulted in bookkeeping in Australia becoming a recognised profession. Our Certificate IV in Bookkeeping is recognised by industry leading Associations in Australia.
From March 1, 2012, bookkeeping is a regulated profession. If you want to register as a Business Activity Statement (BAS) agent you will need to meet a number of requirements.
Once you have completed the IBI Bookkeeping course, you will be recognised by the Tax Practitioners Board as having completed the prescribed educational qualification to register as a BAS Agent and fulfil BAS agent responsibilities.

Additionally, you will develop a broad range of general bookkeeping and financial industry competencies including applying industry best practice and principles in customer service, good communication skills, software technology, as well as health, occupational and safety practices.
To register as a BAS Agent you must complete educational requirements of at least a Certificate IV in Bookkeeping(or Accounting), and have successfully completed a Board approved course in GST/BAS taxation principles.
Experienced bookkeepers will need to formalise their skills and experience to meet these educational requirements. Many will need to complete a qualification but those with extensive work experience may be able to use this experience as credit towards the qualification through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.

Our FNS40215 Certificate IV in Bookkeeping course has been developed under the new Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) (released in 2011). Therefore the course is government-accredited and nationally recognised.
Our bookkeeping course is ideal if you wish operate a bookkeeping business, or as a bookkeeper contract or employee within an organisation. The course is also suitable for you if you are seeking a new career in a bookkeeping role.
Course Prerequisites
Our FNS40215 Certificate IV in Bookkeeping does not have any entry requirements as set out by the National Register for the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. You do not need any prerequisite training or work experience.
However you should have the ability to pass the Learning Literacy and Numeracy Test (LLN) and have a good understanding of English Language.
Students require access to and an understanding of how to use:
- a Personal Computer with Microsoft Windows (Mac and Unix are not supported)
- Internet and email
- Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint and Word 2010
- MYOB AccountRight V19.6 education edition will be supplied in training.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
If you have prior experience or other qualification and wish to undertake the Certificate IV in Bookkeeping to formalise this experience to ensure compliance with Government changes then RPL may be available to you.
